Our Doctors

Dr. Tom Hyde, founder and Senior Partner, opened Hyde Eyecare Associates in 1976. He received his Bachelor's degree from Carson Newman College and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the SouthernCollege of Optometry, Memphis, TN, where he currently serves on the Board of Trustees. Dr. Hyde is a member of the Tennessee Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. Active in the community, Dr. Hyde has been President of the Morristown Rotary Club and founding President of the Lakeway Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He serves as Chairman of the Road Commission and has been an elected official for the past 20 years. He's been involved in Boy Scouts as a Scout Master or assistant for 29 years. He enjoys wooden decoy carving and duck hunting. Dr. Hyde and his wife Debbie reside in Morristown. They have a son Louis and a daughter Rachel. The Hyde's are active members of First United Methodist Church. They enjoy antiquing and spending time with friends and family. 


Dr. Louis Hyde joined Hyde Eyecare Associates in 2005. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, TN, where he served as student body President. He did his internship training at Nellis Air Force Base Hospital in Nevada, The Eye Center in Memphis, and private practice in Covington, TN. He has special interest in diseases of the eye such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Diabetes, Hypertension, Allergies and Dry eyes. He enjoys duck hunting and golf. Dr. Hyde and his wife Melissa, who is an R.N. currently reside in Morristown.

 

Dr. Katherine Laney joined Hyde Eyecare Associates in 2001. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Laney received her Bachelor's degree from Mississippi College and her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1999 from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Graduating Magna Cum Laude, she was inducted into the
Gold Key International Honor Society, the highest leadership honor attainable. Clinically she has a special interest in the treatment of eye disease, refractive surgery, and nursing home care. Dr. Laney was selected as Tennesseeʼs Young Optometrist of the Year in 2005. She has active leadership positions in the East Tennessee Optometric Society and the Tennessee Optometric Association. She resides in Knoxville with her Husband Dennis, son Will and daughter Liza.

Dr. Hal Phillips joined Hyde Eyecare Associates in 2007. Dr Phillips, originally from Kingsport, received his Bachelorʼs degree from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Dr. Phillips did his internship training at the VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN, The Eye Center in Memphis, TN and a private practice in Bartlett, TN. He has a special interest in diseases of the eye such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, and Diabetes. Dr Phillips enjoys all sports, especially Tennessee Football, and spending time with his family. Dr. Phillips along with his wife Mary, son Parker, and Dog Daisy reside in Morristown and are active members of First United Methodist Church.

 

Dr. Tom Browning has been associated with Hyde Eyecare Associates since 1991. Dr. Browning graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He received his medical degree from the University Of Tennessee College Of Medicine, Memphis in 1985. He completed his training in Ophthalmology in 1991. Dr. Browning is Board Certified in Ophthalmology with fellowship training as a Retinal Specialist. He specializes in surgery of the eye and treatment of eye diseases including Glaucoma, Cataracts, and Diabetes. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Browning lives in Knoxville with his wife Sheri and their two daughters Toni and Ashley. In his free time he enjoys biking and spending time with his family.
