Vision Conditions Treated

At Hyde Eye Care, our eye care team treats a variety of vision issues that cannot be addressed through prescription lenses or contacts alone. This includes but is not limited to the following conditions: convergence insufficiency, double vision, eye turns (strabismus), lazy eye (amblyopia), trouble focusing, headaches with reading, eye strain, dizziness or vertigo with a visual component, and visual disturbances due to traumatic brain injuries. Individuals of all ages can benefit from vision therapy including children who are struggling in school, individuals who have been diagnosed with a lazy eye or a wandering eye, and individuals who get headaches after extended time on a computer or with digital devices.

We Treat Common Vision Conditions That Cannot Be Corrected with Contacts or Glasses ALONE

Vision therapy is a doctor-supervised, non-surgical and fully customized treatment program designed to correct specific vision problems and improve visual skills. Unlike eyeglasses or contact lenses that compensate for vision problems due to irregularities in the cornea and length of the eye, vision therapy seeks to “teach” the vision system to correct itself. For example, if you have a child who has been diagnosed with a lazy eye or wandering eye, vision therapy may be able to help. Studies show that children with wandering eyes respond positively to vision therapy.

If your child is have difficulty focusing on work at school or falling behind in the classroom, vision therapy may be able to help. Studies have shown that vision therapy can alleviate the impact of vision problems on reading and learning in children. For some children, glasses alone are not sufficient to correct a vision issue that is causes blurry or double vision. When a child’s vision is blurry or “doubled”, a child needs to exert a great deal of energy to focusing on each word on a page. Little energy remains for comprehending what is being read. Vision therapy can make it easier to focus on letters and words, improving reading comprehension. Vision therapy may also be able to increase reading speed without sacrificing reading comprehension.

In addition to academic improvements, vision therapy may also be able to improve athletic performance. For example, vision therapy can help athletes improve hand-eye coordination and the ability to focus on fast-moving objects, like a baseball pitch. 20/20 vision is just one of the many visual skills individuals need to succeed at reading, learning, and athletics. Whether your child has been diagnosed with a vision condition or is struggling with learning or sports performance, vision therapy may be able to help.
